ACADEMY OF HOPE funds the education of several under-privileged children, providing hope for an otherwise starkly grim future for these youths in the slums of India.
Expatriate to Australia, Yogi Caleb (now London based), stumbled serendipitously across an opportunity to improve the lives of a small handful of bright and hopeful children. This is his story and mission for Academy of Hope:
Recently, while on a spiritual journey in India, Caleb connected with Deepak, a young man living in the slums of Dharamashala with his wife Sonia and their two children Tamana (5yrs) and Arav (1yr). Their living conditions are appalling. Tents made from bamboo and plastic. No electricity. No toilets. One tap for over 800 people.
Caleb met Deepak when he stopped him in the street one day and asked if he could possibly buy some food for his family. Some eggs, rice and milk, for which he was very grateful, but it got Caleb thinking. There must be something he could do that would be more helpful, that could provide longer-term solutions for their hardship.
Then it came to him. He was to hold a fundraiser on his return to London. A 'by-donation' Sattva Yoga class that would raise funds to pay for schooling for Deepak's daughter Tamana. Deepak himself never had an education, and there is nothing he wants more than for his children to go to school, along with other children in his community. It costs merely 30,000 rupee per year to school a child in India (less than £300 or $580 AUD).
Since returning to London, Caleb has reached out to other yoga teachers and now there are ten of them, each sponsoring a child in Deepak's community. The project was named Academy of Hope - Yogis supporting underprivileged children through education.
Deepak has now relocated to Rajasthan with most of his community after they were forced to return to their home state by the government. Caleb is in direct contact with the school principal of Sanskar International Academy, the leading and most reputable school in the Haryana/Punjab area of Rajasthan. The ten children from Deepak's community are enrolled now to begin school in March 2017. The school fees will be transferred directly to the school.
" By providing these children with an education I truly believe we will be ensuring them a brighter future. If you are reading this, I do hope you can support this project in whatever way you can ". - Yogi Caleb
As a supporter of this fundraiser, Belle Abode Interiors together with Belle Abode de Luxe have opted to donate a portion of their sales to help raise funds for this wonderful cause. Every single dollar and cent goes directly towards a child's education. The aim is to provide enough funding for one year of schooling and continue to support the child's schooling for the entirety of their schooling years.
If you'd prefer to sponsor a child's education (for one year, or more), please contact Yogi Caleb here.
Caleb is a former TV presenter from Australia now living in London teaching Sattva yoga.
